Privacy Policy
Short version: we do not track you, and we do not keep your searches.
What We Do Not Do
- No accounts, sign-in or user profiles.
- No cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.
- No search history, on the server or in your browser.
- No selling, sharing or enriching of domain records.
What Happens When You Search
The domain you type is sent to the DomainLookup lookup server. The server asks the public RDAP and WHOIS services of that domain's registry and registrar, then returns the answer to you. Those services can see the domain and the address of our server — not yours.
If our server cannot be reached, your browser may query the registry's RDAP service directly. In that case the registry can see your address, as with any website you visit.
DNS Records and DNS-over-HTTPS
DNS records (A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, CNAME, SOA, CAA) are fetched directly from your browser using public DNS-over-HTTPS resolvers — Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and Google (8.8.8.8). These resolvers receive the domain name you are looking up and your IP address, exactly as they would if you visited any website using them. DomainLookup does not log or store these queries. The same resolvers are also asked for the security checks and subdomain scan: SPF, DMARC, DKIM, MTA-STS, TLS-RPT and DS records, plus common names such as www, mail and api under the domain you searched. The "IP info" button next to an address only opens ipinfo.io when you click it.
If you prefer to avoid this, you can disable DNS lookups in your browser or use a VPN. The rest of the domain record still works normally.
What the Server Keeps, and For How Long
- A copy of each result for about 60 seconds, so repeat searches are quick.
- A request counter per visitor address, held in memory for one minute, to enforce the fair-use rate limit. It is never written to disk.
Nothing else is retained. Restarting the server clears all in-memory state.
Third-Party Resources
Pages load fonts from Google Fonts and photos from Unsplash. Those providers receive your address and browser details when your browser fetches those files, as described in their own privacy policies. We do not share any search data with them.
Registration Data
Domain records are public information published by registries. DomainLookup shows only what the registry publishes and does not add, enrich, store or resell it. Where registries redact owner details under GDPR or similar laws, we show "Not provided by registry" rather than guess.
Children's Privacy
DomainLookup is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. There is nothing to collect — we have no accounts and no forms beyond the domain search box.
Your Rights
Because we do not store personal data, there is nothing to access, correct or delete. If you believe we hold information about you, contact the developer and we will investigate.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of DomainLookup means you accept the current version.
